The builder gene showed up early.

Cody grew up in Somis, a farming town in Southern California, and started building at ten years old with his Uncle Louie and Uncle Charlie on the family ranch in Santa Paula. What they built was a ghost town: a welding shop, a saddle shop, a leather shop, an aviator room, a jail. It still stands, and family still stays in it.

He worked on pole barns and hay barns, fence repairs, steel gates, horse corrals. He helped keep up the family feed store his grandfather Lou Hengehold opened in the sixties, re-roofing it and repairing floors. That building is an agricultural museum in Santa Paula now.

The construction career started in 1994 and ran through every phase of the trade, from panelized roof structures on concrete tilt-ups to wood and steel trusses. In 2008 his brother-in-law asked him to build furniture for a new candy shop called Rocket Fizz. That shop turned into a franchise, the franchise turned into store build-outs around the country, and in 2015 it turned into Tri Peak Construction & Design, Inc. Reno and Tahoe have been home since 2017.

Since 2008 the work has been retail: taking a leased shell and turning it into a store that is ready for product on opening day. Demolition, walls, flooring, lighting, ceilings, bathrooms, the display fixtures, and the custom furniture that no catalog sells.

Leases run whether the doors are open or not, so we treat the schedule as part of the scope. Night work is normal when the businesses next door need the daytime. Certificates of insurance, mall management requirements, and material deliveries get coordinated without you chasing anyone.

Residential

Remodels, room by room or all at once.

Move a wall or take one out. Expand a room, turn a garage into a bedroom, turn an open space into an office. Kitchens and bathrooms, from a countertop and vanity update to a full tear-out.

Remodels find things. Old plumbing, mildew behind tile, rotten framing, wiring from a different decade. We raise those at the estimate and handle them in the open, so the surprises stay small.

Outdoor living

The part of the house with the view.

Patio covers, pergolas, and combinations of the two, built for high desert sun and Sierra weather. Outdoor kitchens with the grill, sink, fridge, stone, and countertop you actually want, plus fire pits, bars, and lighting.

This is the part of the house that gets used every evening from spring through fall, so we build it to the same standard as the rooms inside.

And then there is the odd request.

Custom barn doors, hung between rooms or on a livestock barn, with hardware picked to match the opening. One client branded theirs with the iron they use on the ranch. Yurts in the mountains above Ojai, built as a rental that people fly in for.

Every job runs the same four phases.

Planning

This is where changes belong. Materials get selected, drawings get finalized, permits and stamped plans get pulled. Estimates happen in person, on the site, so the number is built on what is actually there.

Demolition

Old material comes out and the space gets opened up. In retail that often means nights, so the businesses next door keep their daytime. At a house it means containment, and cleanup at the end of every day.
03

Construction

The build itself. Specialty trades come in under Tri Peak: plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, countertops, heating and air. Cody stays visible on the job site, which is where the questions actually come up.
04

Cleanup

Materials, tools, and trash out. Then the punch list, which is deliberately picky, because the point of it is that nothing needs to come back as a warranty call.
